Planning ahead, will allow us the opportunity to look ahead to the future; at a  time when the weather will be warmer, and the earth will come alive again. Just the thought makes me wanna smile; except I can’t right now, because IM COLD bruh! Need some ideas. No prob.  If you’re in NYC around March, take in the annual Cherry Blossom exhibit at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, or if in Chicago, go and play at the Navy Pier. Just do a quick search and see what’s popping in your city come Spring, and begin to pencil in the fun.

Get Creative:

Likely, this time of year, once we’re in the house, it’s usually where we stay, until obligations pull us into the cold outdoors. Well, with so much time being spent in the house, make use of it. Redecorate a room, or reorganize your closet. Perhaps, we’ve had it wrong all along; “Spring Cleaning”, should take place in the winter, freeing us up to enjoy the Spring weather, duhhhhh! Take a look at this youtube channel for some interior design ideas.

Pamper Yourself!

In the winter we tend to throw caution away when it comes to our body. We allow our pedis to grow out a little longer than normal; we may just let that darn layer of hair to inhabit our legs and other places, just a tee wee bit longer than we should. Well, I am here to advocate for treating our bodies like the temple of goddess that it truly is, even this time of year. This time of year, it’s great to keep our skin moisturized, our hair healthy, and our bodies prepped for warmer weather. Don’t let this cold fool you boo. Before you know it, warmer months will be here and it’ll be time to show all that’s been tucked away in big warm boot, and big winter coats. Stay ready, so you aint got to get ready!

Mental Escape.

Read a good book.  Or ten. Reading is a great way to escape the winter blues and find yourself smack dabbed in the middle of a warm island, falling in love with tall dark glass of something sexy, only your imagination can cook up. Or you can indulge in a good biography about Abraham Lincoln if your anything like me. Either way, the idea is escape. And a good book always transport us just long enough to enjoy.

Find You Psalm-body:

This one is for the singles. This time of year, it’s tempting to get into a temporary romance, as it is after all ‘cuffing season’. Well, that can get tricky if you’re waiting for that special someone , and not just willing to settle for anyone. Don’t succumb to the pressure of getting boo’d up this cold season, just to have a warm body to be next to. Rather, take time to read, watch and indulge on content that leads you to  what God’s intentions are for your love life, for all seasons of your life. Pastor Michael Todd, from the Transformation Church, has a great series called #RelationshipGoals, that is sure to give you great tips on intentional purpose-filled relationships and more importantly the importance of this season called single.

5 Tips to Maintain Well Moistured Healthy Skin All Winter ’18

Winter weather blows for the skin.

Between the irrationally  cold weather and low humidity every ounce of moisture is sucked  away from our skin every second of every day; in these brutal winter months.  Playing with this harsh winter weather is literally like playing with fire for the skin, since dry skin can easily lead to cracking and bleeding skin. No ma’am.

A skin moisturizing routine is very necessary this rigid time of year; to replenish what the natural  elements removes; leaving our skin thirsty for moisture.  Think of your skincare winter routine as an act of #SelfLove.

Follow these 5 easy #SelfLove skincare winter tips to maintain well moistured healthy skin all winter ’18.

1. WASH IN LUKEWARM WATER

I know; what’s better than a hot shower in the winter?! But when you can, wash (especially your face) with lukewarm water. This will add well needed hydration without stripping your skin’s natural oils away.

2. MOISTURIZE IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS

Seal in moisture by applying a good moisturizure right after you wash while your skin is damp. Applying while the skin is still damp increases the products ability to absorb and last longer.
3. CHOOSE MOISTURIZER CAREFULLY

Speaking of moisturizing, pick a good moisturizer. Some over-the-counter moisturizers have petroleum-based ingredients that can actually further dry your skin in the winter months. Be sure to choose a smart formula that has natural, nourishing ingredients. Go for an oil-based rather than a water-based solution, as it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter. I love natural oils like jojoba, hemp, and a little coconut oil.

4. DRINK UP

This one is easy….think less coffee…more water. Really that simple.  Water is your friend. Drink it up. While you can drink your water; don’t be afraid to eat it too. Add more moisture friendly foods to your diet like watermelon; grapes; oranges.

5. OVERNIGHT MOISTURIZE

Dryer areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees have thin skin and tend to lose moisture faster than more meatier areas of the body. To combat this try doing overnight deep moisturizing on these areas with a deep conditioning lotion or balm.

Follow these simple steps and expect to be on your way to well moisturized skin all winter.
