Between the irrationally  cold weather and low humidity every ounce of moisture is sucked  away from our skin every second of every day; in these brutal winter months.  Playing with this harsh winter weather is literally like playing with fire for the skin, since dry skin can easily lead to cracking and bleeding skin. No ma’am.

A skin moisturizing routine is very necessary this rigid time of year; to replenish what the natural  elements removes; leaving our skin thirsty for moisture.  Think of your skincare winter routine as an act of #SelfLove.

1. WASH IN LUKEWARM WATER

I know; what’s better than a hot shower in the winter?! But when you can, wash (especially your face) with lukewarm water. This will add well needed hydration without stripping your skin’s natural oils away.

2. MOISTURIZE IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS

Seal in moisture by applying a good moisturizure right after you wash while your skin is damp. Applying while the skin is still damp increases the products ability to absorb and last longer.
3. CHOOSE MOISTURIZER CAREFULLY

Speaking of moisturizing, pick a good moisturizer. Some over-the-counter moisturizers have petroleum-based ingredients that can actually further dry your skin in the winter months. Be sure to choose a smart formula that has natural, nourishing ingredients. Go for an oil-based rather than a water-based solution, as it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter. I love natural oils like jojoba, hemp, and a little coconut oil.

4. DRINK UP

This one is easy….think less coffee…more water. Really that simple.  Water is your friend. Drink it up. While you can drink your water; don’t be afraid to eat it too. Add more moisture friendly foods to your diet like watermelon; grapes; oranges.

5. OVERNIGHT MOISTURIZE

Dryer areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees have thin skin and tend to lose moisture faster than more meatier areas of the body. To combat this try doing overnight deep moisturizing on these areas with a deep conditioning lotion or balm.

As we usher in this last full month of summer 😢; it’s a great time to start thinking about what exactly it is we want to accomplish before the summer is over. With exactly 52 days before that first leaf falls, here is a list of 52 HEALTHY things to do before summer 17 is but a memory:

2. Try spa water  (water infused with mint, cucumbers, berries etc)
3. Go for a evening run
4. Yoga at sunset on the beach
